The holidays are over and it feels like the cold weather is only beginning. If you’re feeling the new year blues like the rest of us here at Floor Coverings International Calgary then maybe it’s time we share our coping mechanism… building cozy bedrooms! Nothing makes those dark afternoons better than snuggling up in a comfy bedroom. Here are our tips on getting started.

Cozy bedroom in CalgaryStep One: Lighting

When you think about redecorating, it’s easy to forget about the lighting aspect. In fact, lighting is one of the quickest ways to give a room an entirely different feel. Buy some candles, lower those watts, and make sure your bulbs are giving off warm light. You can switch things up by pairing different types of lighting too. Try mixing floor lamps with bedside lamps. Maybe even add some string lights for that extra cozy look.

Step Two: Textiles

Most of all, coziness is about feeling warm! You can make your room feel warmer by adding layers of mixed textiles. Pull out that down comforter. Drape a couple throw blankets across your bed. Add a few extra pillows. Put up some nice thick shades for a bold window statement. The more variety, the better!

Step Three: Floors

Comfy carpets and area rugs provide a cushy spring to your step. Accentuate your hardwood floors with a faux fur or shag area rug. For the ultimate lush carpet experience, consider adding a plush or cable style carpet. Both are known for being extremely soft underfoot. You may actually want to get out of bed every morning just so you can walk on your cloud-like carpet!

Ultimately, you want to create a space that you look forward to coming home to. Creating something that allows you to feel completely relaxed will benefit both your physical and mental health. Turning your bedroom into a cozy oasis is a step in the right direction. We still have a few more months of winter in Calgary and it’s not too late to get started!
